About us

Skookum Food Provisioners Cooperative has been a force of meaningful community connection and robust efforts toward food security and provisioning practices in qathet/Powell River for 15 years! As our remote and rural community stands at the crossroad of a changing climate, economy, and global food challenges, we are growing our collective awareness and discovering more resilient pathways toward localized food security and economies of scale. Being a member of Skookum gives you the chance to join such a circle of folks who share a common vision, and have a strong desire to cooperate, share skills and expertise, work on meaningful food provisioning and land-based projects, and put our efforts in at the local grassroots to make good soil together.

The Skookum board is always willing to meet with you and answer your questions or talk about project ideas that you may have. We know some of you are small farmers, backyard gardeners, health food advocates, healers, regenerative agriculturalists, herbalists, educators, parents and artists – we want you to know that your ideas and visions for food security and provisioning are needed and valued! We’re really enthusiastic about working with our members to create activities and events that will bring us all together to increase the amount of food we are able to grow, gather, process, preserve, and store in qathet/Powell River.

We aim to provide a year-round roster of educational, fun, and irresistible projects, workshops, and events for our members to participate in, which will help them acquire new knowledge & skills, share equipment, pool our time & labour, achieve economies of scale, and give back to the broader community.

Skookum Food Provisioners’ Cooperative believes in openness and transparency. We share our documents freely, in the hopes that others will find them informative. Please take time to explore our foundational documents:
